Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, originally from Rize, was born in Trabzon in 1966. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1990 and became a General Surgery Specialist in 1995 after completing his residency at Istanbul Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital.
Between 1996 and 1998, he worked as a General Surgery Specialist at SSK Konya Ereğli Hospital, PTT Hospital, and Bursa Military Hospital. In 1999–2000, he gained international experience at the Liver and Gastrointestinal Transplantation Unit of the University of Miami.
From 2000 to 2002, he served as Chief Assistant at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery. In late 2002, he was appointed Chief Physician of PTT Hospital and became an Associate Professor of General Surgery in 2008.
He earned a Master’s Degree in Health Management at Beykent University (2007–2009). He served for 10 years as the Chief Physician of Istanbul Fatih Sultan Mehmet Training and Research Hospital.
In November 2012, he was appointed Head of Medical Services at the Istanbul Northern Anatolian Public Hospitals Association, and in May 2014, he became Secretary General of the same institution.
In 2016, he was appointed as a Professor of General Surgery at the Health Sciences University Fatih Sultan Mehmet Health Practice and Research Center. Starting in October 2016, he served as the Istanbul Provincial Health Director.
On July 2, 2024, he was appointed as the Minister of Health of the Republic of Türkiye.
Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu is married and has three children.
