St Helen Church known as ‘Kordelya’’at one time in Karşıyaka is the first Catholic Church of Karşıyaka. The construction was built with contribution of Kont Nikolai Alliotti on a land which was allocated to Catholic Comunity connected to Priest, Don Alfonso Vallery living in Karşıyaka at the end of 19th century and it was completed in 1904. It is known that Muslims who live in Karşıyaka contributed to the church during the construction and Architect, Raymond Pere who planned and managed the structure works of the church drew the distinguished arch of St Polycarp Church and Konak Clock Tower. Its interior decoration was restored in 1968 and especially, historic fabric of the church during restoration was protected.
Modification is not made at its external wall until today. Master workmanship of church’s external architecture turns into art. The church has windows in the style of neogothic structure and French Saint and Ave stained glasses as well it has embossments which depict the life of Jesus Christ on walls.Marble sculptures of Helen Ave and Saint Konstantin were placed on four corners of the church. The Street where church is situated in is called as ‘Church Street’.
